The park is a huge expanse of protected mountain terrain with a vast network of hiking trails and wildlife. The higher elevation can cause altitude sickness in those not prepared, so it's recommended to spend at least 24-48 hours acclimating before hitting the trails. There are small towns and amazing hikes all around Denver, so find something you're interested in exploring!
This place has views for days! The park rangers are excellent with kids! My daughters became junior rangers by filling out their national park explorer books! They had so much fun! If you see people stopped on the side of the road, look and see if you can see what they see as most people stop for a reason! Will definitely be back!

It's all about mountains!! Breathtaking views and chilly weather almost throughout the year. We experienced snowfall in May last week. Plan your trip ahead and make sure the weather is comfortable to you. Do visit the bear lake and the scenic drive to the top. Watch out for the animals and wildlife.

Love it! Very beautiful sights to see went during the last week of May entering June, there was still snow at the peak of the mountains which was just beautiful! It is a bit cold once your at the peak of the mountain so remember to bring a jacket! Other than that I highly recommend this place to visit when going to Colorado!

We only touched the edges! However, the views were stunning. Fellow hikers were polite and friendly. SO glad we went (I am not a hiker), it was most pleasant with birds, chipmunks, squirrels and deer. It was early August. However, the temps were nice and plenty of shade. Estes Park was beautiful!

Gorgeous park with gorgeous hiking trails. We really got lucky with good weather and smaller crowds when we came in July. Not too much wildlife during the day, but drive slowly in the dark as there are often elk around.

Rocky Mountain National Park is honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. If you love nature and stunning mountain views, this place is perfect. There are trails for everyone—whether you’re just up for a casual walk around Bear Lake or want to tackle a tougher hike like Longs Peak. The scenery is unreal, and it’s super common to spot wildlife like elk and deer, which is pretty cool.Trail Ridge Road is a must if you’re driving through. It gives you incredible views from up high, and you really get to experience how massive the park is. Every season offers something different—summer’s all about wildflowers, and in the winter, it’s like stepping into a snow-covered wonderland. If you’re planning to go, I’d recommend packing some snacks, water, and a camera because you’ll definitely want to take some pics. Whether you’re into hiking, camping, or just chilling with a view, Rocky Mountain National Park won’t disappoint!

This national park is absolutely stunning! There are so many different epic views throughout the park. If you get lucky you might see some cool animals. We saw many beautiful trees and lakes. I do recommend to find out about the opening hours before you drive up to the park so you won't have to wait in your car for a while. Also, bring food and water with you, they don't really have anywhere to buy anything once you enter. Go as early as you can.All in all, it was a great experience.

By far this is one of the best National Parks I have ever explored. The scenic drive is breathtaking! You will see plenty of trails and historic markers throughout this park so make sure to stop and read some and hike some of these beautiful trails. We set up camp in Moraine campground and glad we did. Waking up to the stunning views of the mountains and wildlife was so worth it. This National Park is a MUST!

Yes you should go.The expanse of it alone is spectacular.Couple this with inclement weather throughout (late May with some cold at high altitude and some snow) with good trails and road trips and you'll have a good time.Good signposted viewpoints dotted throughout. Easy drive.Bear lake area interesting and manageable for most.Good chance to see wildlife

The Colorado Rocky Mountain trails offer breathtaking vistas, ranging from lush forests to rugged peaks. With trails suitable for all skill levels, hikers can explore alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, and stunning overlooks. The Continental Divide Trail and Colorado Trail are iconic choices, each providing a unique outdoor experience amidst the region's natural beauty.

Breathtaking NP. We visited right after the snowstorm so conditions were a bit rough, however the views were amazing - everything covered in snow. The park has a good sign system, routes are well marked and trails are maintained in great conditions. Big yes!

Fabulous drive on I-70 through the Rocky Mountains. You can ski, hike, camp, fish, to name a few sports. Or just enjoy the spectacular views. I cannot say enough about this National Forest a definite must do if in Colorado. It's so beautiful in winter.

What a park! Late May was still very icy and snowy, but absolutely breathtaking. We were here on the last days of the no permit season, but the crowds were not bad at all. We only had difficulty parking once at Bear Lake, but still secured a spot with some patience. The hikes were open but very slippery and snow packed - highly recommend boots, crampons and poles. We had none of these things and did fairly well, but life would have been much better with the proper equipment. We saw so many animals! No bear or sheep, but plenty of moose and elk with marmots at higher elevations. All of the rangers we talked to were so kind and informative. I would love to see this park in the summer, but we had a wonderful time. This park is certainly worth getting lost in for awhile.
Hannah T — Google review
Coming from the UK I was simply lost for words exploring the Rockie mountain national park. The national park system here in America is brilliant.Going on a weekend in the summer I thought it would have been extremely busy, but apart from the initial traffic going through the entrance gates it was very drivable and I never felt like I was in any traffic. As you can see from the photos I came across moose on multiple occasions also seeing a marmot.
Dion J — Google review
Too much to say about this place. If you are considering going and capable of hiking, just go! Timed entry was easy and super convenient to help us avoid large crowds at the more popular hikes. Every ranger or employee we encountered was great, caring and knowledgeable. So many different areas in this park with so many wonderful views.

One of the most spectacular, photogenic and famous national park, set in the midst of the Rockies. Has the highest continuous road (11K feet above sea level) over the continental divide. Has lakes, spectacular views, awesome hiking, cross country skiing in the winter….just about any outdoor sport you’d like to do. You need days to cover it.
Rich B — Google review
Visited Late June 2021. One of my top 3 favorite national parks. Alpine Meadows, Aspen Forests, Scenic Lakes. Elk, Bear and Squirrels are also a common sight. I loved this park, just make sure to come early to avoid the crowds.

Bear Creek was beautiful. We did the hike to Nymph lake. It was gorgeous. The walk there is all uphill. There are lots of big boulders to sit on and rest along the way. The trail around the lake was nice to do as well. We saw some deer and some little chipmunk like animals too. Overall in the park we saw several elk at maybe four different locations. The park is absolutely beautiful. Driving up to the Alpine region gives you a completely different experience. I really do not like those restrooms that are not hard plumbed, oh well maybe someday the park will upgrade. That is the only negative thing I can say. I strongly strongly recommend this park. You do have to make reservations for different things so please take care to do that on the website.

Majestic views, winding mountain roads, and awesome photos of wildlife! We got all that during our visit. Be aware that if you want to enter the park, they have a timed entry system that you should sign up for in advance. We chose to enter at Fall River and do the steep, winding, dirt road after 2pm. A local guide said the road would take about 2-3 hours. We must have stopped for more wildlife photos than she does because we were above treeline for about 1.5-2 hours! The drive itself took us about 5 hours (yes, we're prairie folk). It was simply so stunningly beautiful that anything less would require ignoring nature's majesty. Be mindful of the altitude! Pack food & water! Pick up after yourself & your pets! Enjoy the views & the journey!

If you’re near Denver this trip takes about 1 hour 45 min in the winter. There was a $30 entry fee for the car. As soon as we passed the gates we saw a heard of elk in the field next to us. This park has very nice paved roads and trails. The views are beyond stunning, I’ve never seen anything like it. Everything is so massive.

Amidst the winter's icy grip, we ventured forth,To Rocky Mountains, south to north.Six feet of snow, a blizzard's fierce blow,Yet undeterred, we tread where few would go.Dream Lake beckoned, a vision surreal,Frozen rivers and lakes beneath our heel. With boots and gear, we forged ahead,Amidst the frozen wonders where dreams are fed.Snowshoes adorned, sticks in hand,We embarked on Loch Vale, a journey grand.Nine miles of trail, through snow and storm,Like characters from legend, our spirits warm.Through ravines and cliffs, we made our way,A fellowship united, come what may.No footprints to guide us, we blazed our own trail,Pushing our limits, we could not fail.At journey's end, a frozen lake loomed,Amidst the fog, our courage consumed.Yet in that moment, amidst the storm's embrace,We found solace and peace, in nature's grace. The Rocky Mountains Park, a memory made,In the heart of winter, where dreams cascade.Through snow and storm, we ventured forth,To find our place, in the park's timeless north.

Beautiful park, especially when you get off the road and go for a hike. The western side is much less crowded and much more peaceful. Very limited services in the park, but there are two towns close to the entrances that can accommodate most needs.

We went in the winter, 4 wheel drive may be required to enter. I believe tickets were about 35 dollars. It is really a beautiful place, and may even be a once in a lifetime experience. The mountains, scenery, and animals, just breathtaking and something I will never forget. They also have a nice gift shop and friendly staff.

We were staying right in Denver and we drove here for a day trip. We stopped at silver trailheads and did some hiking. The scenery was absolutely stunning. We saw some birds but that's the only animals we really saw. But anyway and walking out into the scenery like this was very calming. We did have two people that have the senior passes so they got us all in to the park. It was in the beginning of March so it was on the chillier side so we did dress appropriately. We all had hiking boots

Whether you're into hiking, skiing, wildlife viewing, or simply enjoying the scenic views, the Rockies have something for everyone. The diverse flora and fauna add to the charm, making every visit an adventure. Overall, the Rocky Mountains are a must-visit for anyone who appreciates nature and outdoor exploration.

Loads of moose, elk, and bighorn sheep! Gorgeous stargazing. I went to the Grand Lake side just before memorial day (off season, before Trail Ridge Road opened), and there was hardly anyone there. It was glorious. I even caught a faint Aurora to the north!

A really, really great park where you could easily fill 4-5 days with awesome hiking. It’s a good idea to map out your visit in advance since the park is so expansive with literally hundreds of possible hikes. Getting out to Dream and Emerald Lake is a must! I’d recommend very waterproof shoes…there can be snow on the ground in places as late as June! It can get crowded in places, but not as bad as also smaller parks.

We arrived at 6:30 am on Friday without a timed entry and we were able to drive the Old Fall River Road with ease. We have a truck and were able to make the curves with no problem. We seen elk, deer, and tons of marmot! Chasm Falls has a small parking lot but we were able to find a spot since it was so early. I'd imagine later in the day the few spots fill up fast. The hike down is easy and quick! We also got the opportunity to hike Marmot Point and had the trail to ourselves! It was wonderful and I highly recommend this hike. It was a little bit of a challenge for us Missouri folk but we took a couple short breaks and we were able to hike up it in about 35 minutes. The trail is quite rocky/sandy so maybe a walking stick/ trekking poles would be helpful coming down 😬 I slide a couple times and I typically have great balance (probably a combo of elevation and not having my trekking poles). Definitely wear proper hiking shoes. It was close to 9 am when we were finished with the drive so the Visitor Center at the end was getting busy with folks with timed permits. We did have a 4 pm permit to drive down Bear Lake Road. That was a bit stressful getting in and finding parking... I would also suggest the earliest timed entry for that area or come in before 5 am to avoid massive crowds.

Wonderful national park that maintains itself well, and has the traffic and resources to do so. Portions are closed for safety reasons for half the year as the snow is real, but the available places are wonderful, especially February through April. You have to have a pass, from the online registration during the summer months from about May through September, as they only allow so many people in at a time, so it's not overrun with folks.I like the management. It does make it more difficult to be spontaneous about coming, but I figure it's good management of resources so that there isn't strain on the local wildlife, terrain, and resources. It's a beautiful park, with hundreds of hiking trails, a snow play area, amazing vistas, and river plains with plenty of elk, deer, moose, and even the occasional bear. Lots of interesting waterways in the spring thaw, and snow snow snow to go with all the gorgeous rocks. There are plenty of pit toilets by all the trailheads, water at the guest centers, and lots of rangers who are cheerfully willing to talk you through a planned hike if you'd like the guidance. DO take advantage of the advice, especially if you plan to go backrange and please get the appropriate passes and ALWAYS carry water at this altitude. And there's a lot of lightening in the afternoons in the summer... so... yeah.Love this place and we come back to it often enough to have an annual pass.

The mountains are stunning and we saw abundant wildlife daily. The hiking trails are well marked and when we visited the wildflowers were in full bloom. It is a little tricky to get the time entry pass but it all worked out for us. Stay hydrated and read up on the NPS websites so you are prepared. We have so many hikes we love here. The locals truly treasure and love the mountains and take great care and pride in the mountains. It is rejuvenating to visit this area.

My family and I went over the weekend with a Timed entry reservation + Bear Lake pass at the latest entry time. We preferred it as there were less crowds, Bear lake is stroller friendly, many different trails connected, free parking right out front and the weather was in 62 degrees. Bear lake and Nymoh lake were the only trials we could hit with a 1 year old and I’d recommend. Do not bring the stroller for Nymph lake( up terrain and rocking).

Beautiful scenery. We went without snow shoes or spikes around bear lake and to nymph lake and it was a bit slippery but definitely doable. We enjoyed the beautiful snow and sunshine

Beautiful park, if you stay away from Bear Lake Rd. you can find SOME hiking that isn’t overcrowded. But it’s a very busy park so expect to be around a lot of people. It’s definitely worth visiting though regardless.

A friend visited Colorado for a concert and had the opportunity to drive her up trail ridge road to the Alpine visitor center.Take a nice easy cruise up the road and stop and enjoy the views and read about the local flora and fauna and watch out for the marmots they are absolutely adorable. Make sure to either rent a car or go on a guided ride. The guided ride is not necessary but you will be able to enjoy the views rather than having to focus on the road. Please pick up your trash, and others trash if you see it, this is my home state and I would love to keep it clean and share it with everyone who visits.

This national park has quickly become one of my favorites, rivaling even the grandeur of Yosemite and the awe-inspiring vastness of the Grand Canyon. Our two-day adventure, with one night spent at a picturesque campsite, was simply perfect. Despite forecasts of heavy rain (I always check TrekWeather for updates), we were lucky to encounter only an hour of rain before the skies cleared up, bathing the landscape in golden sunlight. We set up camp at the Glacier Basin Campground, and I must say, it’s one of the best campgrounds I've ever visited. Nestled among aspen trees, the scenery is breathtaking. However, a word of caution: the campground only sells firewood, so make sure to bring plenty of food. The site boasts clean restrooms and drinkable water, though the water availability might be seasonal. With limited time, we managed to squeeze in a hike to Bear Lake and Emerald Lake, which is an absolute must-do. The scenery keeps getting better with every step, and the moderate climb makes it one of the most beautiful yet manageable hikes I’ve experienced. If you’re from a lower altitude region, be mindful of the altitude, as the hike starts at an elevation of 9,800 feet. The Ranger Hut at the trailhead offers drinks and snacks, including a delicious trail mix that’s worth trying.Overall, this trip to the national park was an unforgettable experience, filled with stunning landscapes and the perfect touch of adventure.

What a beautiful place. We drove all the way across east to west and stopped at many interesting spots along the way. Entrance is by reservation during the day and parking at sites is ample. Don’t expect traffic and crowds because there are none. It’s quite cold at the high altitudes so bring warm jackets. We camped one night and had a little ice on the car in the morning, in August.

Never get tired of the beauty this place has. Love coming here. We always get the 7 day pass (it's just $5 more than 1 day pass). We always stop at the visitor center before the entrance to ask questions (find out what roads are closed etc) Ask for a map it is free.Make sure to get your pass online. There some months in which you have to get a timed reservation to get in (so check website before you go)

I was here at the end of March for 2 days. I’m from Texas and I’ve never seen so much snow in my life!! It was so amazing to be able to hike through the trees and see everything so white and beautiful.I used AllTrails but the trails in the app are based off non-snow conditions. In the winter you basically just follow the paths that have been cleared.Special shout out to Ranger Amy Fink, who helped me when my vehicle slid on the ice and got stuck! She was so kind and helpful!

Our journey into Rocky Mountain National Park was nothing short of enchanting. Despite the winter restrictions limiting our travel to just 10 miles from the Grand Lake entrance on the west side, the views were breathtaking. The snow-draped landscape painted a scene that left us in awe.Upon arrival, we were delighted to explore the charming gift shop, where we found a treasure to commemorate our visit. While the bathrooms were basic, they served their purpose adequately. However, it was the warmth and hospitality of the staff that truly stood out—they were incredibly friendly and eager to assist, adding to the overall pleasant experience.Though our hearts were set on spotting a moose or any wildlife, our luck wasn't in our favor this time. Nevertheless, the tranquility of the park, especially between snowfalls, made it feel like we had the entire expanse to ourselves. The absence of crowds allowed us to immerse ourselves fully in the natural splendor surrounding us.One highlight of our visit was utilizing the GuideAlong app, which proved to be an invaluable companion. From trail suggestions to insider tips, it enhanced our exploration and ensured we made the most of our limited distance within the park. We highly recommend this app to fellow adventurers seeking to maximize their park experience. Our time in the park was a winter wonderland. Despite the restrictions, the park's beauty left a mark on us, making it a journey we'll fondly remember for years to come.

What a great time at Rocky Mountain National Park on Friday. The day was perfect and the scenery was spectacular. Although there was a 54 minute wait to enter the Beaver Meadows entrance at noon time, it was worth the wait. After all, it was Memorial Day weekend and it was the first day of the year with timed entrance. If you are going, before July, it is wise to bring proper hiking gear, I was told by a ranger that the trails at 12,000 feet and below will have ice on them for about another month. A great place to have lunch is at the picnic tables at Tuxedo Falls where there is a beautiful stream. Enjoy!

The park is gorgeous. It's located about an hour and a half from Denver. The mountains are rugged and beautiful, particularly the snow caps. The roads are good with plenty of scenic overlooks. Wildlife is abundant. The mule deer aren't skittish at all. Estes Park is neat little town on the edge of the park.

Heaven on earth! I lived in the Denver area for 4 and a half years. Most of that time was during the pandemic, so many of the things to do in the area was closed. Thankfully, the park was not. It provided solitude and peace. Bear Lake is my favorite lake there. It’s handicap accessible, which is a great blessing for people who have mobility challenges, as are many of the lakes and paths around them. I’m so thankful for the preservation of this national treasure. Every time I visited, which was at least every few months during the spring to fall and as soon as the roads were clear to go, I was always in awe! Please remember to drive slowly because of the wildlife. Please keep all trash with you until you can find a trash receptacle or take it out of the park with you. I felt closer to my Creator there at the park than in any building! So grateful for my time there!

Beautiful park to visit! Recommended to come here and if you want to enjoy more of the views on the drive take a jeep tour or something similar. So many turns with amazing views! Hit or miss to see a variety of animals but the more time you can commit here the more chances to see some amazing stuff!

Make sure to do your research BEFORE coming! You need reservations to enter between 9a-2p and 6a-4p for the busiest (& most scenic) part of the park. And once you enter some entrances, you could be stuck there u til reservation time is lifted. We only had time for wild basin and didn’t have times entry for anything else. Plus that entrance is not connected to other roads through the park. But we did 11 miles up Ouzel falls and lake. 2k feet of climbing. With not much foot or water. So be better prepared! Bring lots of water (1L per hour) and lots of high fat high protein food. Nuts, bars, electrolytes, jerky fruit etc…

Rocky Mountain National Park is a breathtaking destination that encapsulates the stunning beauty of the Colorado Rockies. With its towering peaks, alpine lakes, and diverse wildlife, the park offers a wealth of outdoor activities and stunning vistas for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. However, it's essential to plan your visit wisely, especially during the winter and early spring months.During the winter, many of the park's driving trails, including the famous Trail Ridge Road, are closed due to heavy snowfall and challenging road conditions. This can limit access to some of the most scenic areas of the park. Typically, these roads begin to open up in late spring as the snow melts, making summer the ideal time to explore the park's full offerings. If you visit during the winter or early spring, be prepared for limited access and consider alternative activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or enjoying the tranquility of the snow-covered landscape.Once the snow has melted and the roads are cleared, Rocky Mountain National Park transforms into a summer paradise. The scenic drives provide access to breathtaking viewpoints, where you can stop and take in panoramic vistas of the majestic mountains and lush valleys. The park’s abundant hiking trails range from easy walks around Bear Lake to challenging hikes like Longs Peak, offering something for every level of hiker.Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to see elk, deer, and even the occasional black bear, particularly during the early morning or late afternoon. The park is also home to diverse flora, with colorful wildflowers blanketing the meadows in summer, making it an ideal time for photography. In addition to the stunning landscapes, Rocky Mountain National Park offers a range of visitor services, including information centers, campgrounds, and ranger-led programs that enhance your experience. The staff are knowledgeable and eager to share insights about the park's ecology, geology, and history, providing a deeper understanding of this natural wonder. In summary, Rocky Mountain National Park is an awe-inspiring destination that offers unparalleled natural beauty and outdoor adventures. While winter visitors should be aware of closed driving trails and limited access, those who wait for spring to arrive will be rewarded with a spectacular summer experience. Whether you're hiking through wildflower-filled meadows, enjoying scenic drives, or spotting wildlife, Rocky Mountain National Park is sure to leave a lasting impression. Just be sure to check road conditions and trail openings before your visit to make the most of this incredible park!
